Codex Entry: The Fiery Heart of the Sahngruns
Art by Tom Edwards and Nataly Zhuk
Being the fifth race to join the Galactic Republic, the sahngruns welcomed the chance to be a part of a larger galactic community. By the time the joined the Republic, they were reeling from the Unification War; a conflict which resulted in them finally coming together as a species.
The Sahngrun Dominion is run by five councilmen and control five star systems. Unlike most governments within the GRSR, the Sahngrun Dominion and their military, the Sahngrun Alliance, are two separate entities. There are two forms of laws in Sahngrun society; System Laws and Planetary laws. The System Laws are the laws that all planets and their inhabitants must obey, whereas the Planetary Laws are laws specific to that planet. Each planet is run by a Grand Ruler.
They're an aquatic species with both gills on its neck along with nostrils, so they can breathe in and out of the water. When out of water, their skin hardens up and almost acts as armor in and of itself. When in water, it’s very soft and smooth, almost like silk.
Even though sahngruns can live on surface-based worlds, being away and out of the water for a prolonged period of time will result in a shorter life span. To counter this, sahngruns often have rooms entirely submerged in water.
Their homeworld, Saveena, is 90% ocean with only small pockets of land. While it may not appear to be much on the surface, there are massive cities and kingdoms deep beneath the ocean made of Kloridium, a bronze colored metal native to Saveena. They used this metal to form their weapons and ships as well.
The Sahngrun Alliance, while not as mighty as the anthrum's or rah' salaruuns, is still a force to be reckoned with. What they lack in strict discipline or unwavering heart, they excel in wrath. When you've wronged the sahngruns, the Alliance will stop at nothing to bring you to justice.
This can best be seen in the Galrung Rebellion, which took place at the turn
of the 25th century. While on a campaign to wipe out several pirate gangs in the Badlands, Admiral Galrung of the Sahngrun Alliance went rogue, as did his fleet. Though they attempted to overthrow the Alliance, their plans were thwarted by Admiral Lecarn and his flagship, the super dreadnought known as Malcora’s Hope.
In that conflict as well as others, the sahngrun marines showed unforgiving tenacity. Through rigorous training, the Alliance marines are molded into the best warriors they can be, representing their people with pride. If they believe in their orders, they’ll follow them without question and until completion.
One of the most prominent members of the Sahngrun Alliance is the aforementioned Admiral Lecarn. Super dreadnoughts are a rarity in the Republic, and Malkora’s Hope serves as one of the figureheads of the Galactic Republic’s defense. With Admiral Lecarn commanding it, the Hope is one of the fiercest starships in the GRSR, reflecting Lecarn’s own tenacity.
